A heat pump is only as good as the install.

That sentence is the whole company. Everything Heat Geek does — the courses, the badge, the network — exists because the same box of parts can be brilliant or dreadful depending entirely on who fitted it and how they thought about it.

What Heat Geek is

A training programme

Around 40 hours of heating theory and system design, online and self-paced. Over 4,000 engineers have taken it. There's a 100% pass mark, which is unusual, and deliberate.

A standard

The badge is a shorthand for a homeowner who has no way of judging a heating design. It only works because it's difficult to earn and can be taken away.

A network of local installers

Not a franchise and not an employer. Independent engineers running their own businesses, setting their own prices, backed by shared tools and a community. Over 2,000 homes heated so far.

Why we started in Ireland with training, not sales

It would have been easier to open a phone line, take homeowner enquiries and find someone to do the work. That's how a lot of companies enter a new market, and it's how a lot of homeowners end up with a heat pump that costs more to run than the boiler it replaced.

We'd rather do it in the order that works. Train Irish engineers properly first. Certify the ones who get through. Then start putting homeowners in front of them, county by county, only where there's someone good enough to send.

It's slower. It also means that when we do tell a homeowner in Kerry or Kildare that we can help, it will be true.

First certified Irish geeks

A handful of Irish engineers have passed the training and earned the badge. They aren't taking Heat Geek work yet.

Where we open first depends on where certified geeks are and where homeowners have registered. Both are worth adding yourself to.
