The patch you can't buy. Around 3,000 engineers have earned it so far.

Training in this industry is broken.

Pay-to-pass courses are everywhere. Two days in a classroom, a certificate on the way out, and nobody any better at sizing a system than they were on Monday morning.

Heat Geek exists because a heating engineer got tired of watching that. The courses cover the knowledge you actually need to install to a high standard, and you can't skip past the bits you find hard.

What you'll learn

Heat loss calculations

Room by room, done properly. This is where a heat pump is sized, and it's where most bad installs are already lost.

Hydronics

Flow rates, pipe sizing, pressure drop, balancing. Water is the whole system, and most engineers were never taught how it behaves.

System design

Emitters, cylinders, buffers and controls, designed around one particular house rather than dropped in from a template.

Flow temperatures

The difference between a heat pump that costs less to run than the oil boiler and one that costs more. Run it cooler, run it cheaper.

Who it's for

You already work in Irish homes

Plumbers, heating engineers, electricians and RGI-registered installers. If you're comfortable in someone's hot press, you're in the right place.

No heat pump experience needed

The courses start from how a wet heating system behaves and build up. Coming from oil or gas is a perfectly good starting point.

You're willing to be wrong

Most people who do this training find out something they were confident about was wrong. That's the useful part. Bring the ego and you'll struggle.

How to join

Steps one to four are open to Irish installers today. Step five is what we're building next, and the people who start now are the ones who'll be in it.

01

Start the training

Sign up at learn.heatgeek.com. First month free, then €150 a month. Nothing to install, nothing to attend.

02

Work through the courses

Around 40 hours in total, self-paced, in the evenings or between jobs. You'll have a community of installers to argue with while you do it.

03

Pass at 100%

Not a pass mark you can scrape. You go back over what you got wrong until you have it. That's why the badge means something.

04

Get verified

A competency assessment marked by our in-house team, insurance checked, and our code of conduct signed. Then you're a certified geek.
